Our Work
See what we've been up to!
Power for Parkinson's
During this Fall of 2022, we collaborated with Power for Parkinson's! Power for Parkinson's mission is to engage people with Parkinson’s in regular exercise to slow or even reverse the effects of PD, improve overall sense of well-being, provide opportunities for socialization, and help prevent depression and isolation that often accompanies the disease. In our collaboration, we did some fun watercoloring activities that helped gain mobility in the hands and wrists
Art Workshops at Posada Esperanza
MedstART has established a partnership with Posada Esperanza since the Fall 2021. Once a month, MedstART members and officers volunteer at Posada Esperanza where they lead art and science specific workshops, allowing the kids to explore different creative outlets! Members also had fun conversing with the children in English, Spanish, and French.
Virtual/Live Art Sessions with Helping Hands Home
MedstART had the opportunity to work with Helping Hands Home (HHH) and deliver art presentations to their young residents. Every month members would present art demos to the children via Zoom and have them participate in the same creative tasks. Through these activities we hoped to motivate and inspire the children to partake in the creative arts. Due to the wonderful experience from both parties, this relationship between MedstART and HHH has continued into this school year (so look out for more details about our volunteering opportunities!) See below for an example of our members' presentation/demo!
Coloring Books for Helping Hands Home for Children
Our first Fall 2021 general (and in-person) meeting involved producing coloring books for the children at Helping Hands Home. Members made drawings, all of which were put together into a printable coloring book for the residents!
Homemade Craft Videos for Local Hospital
Since everyone was "quarantining" and taking virtual classes this past 2020-2021 school year, MedstART members took the initiative to send craft tutorials to a local hospital. There, the videos were displayed on TVs so that young patients could learn different forms of art, such as origami! Below is a graphic summarizing of what was done during this tutorials (which can also be seen on our Instagram page).
Guest Lecturing/Inspirational Cards at GirlStart
GirlStart is an organization that provides STEM programs and activities for young girls in order to inspire them to pursue fields in sciences. Our two officers, Anjana and Nicki, we're guest speakers for them on November 16, where they allowed girls to explore STEM topics via a Jeopardy game. Additionally, we create inspirational cards for the girls during some of our socials and general meetings!
